Gluten-Free

Hello Everyone,

I have been Gluten-Free (GF) for approximately 2.5 years. It has taken a lot of trial and error to figure out what being Gluten Intolerant living GF really means. It isn't just a health fad for me, it is a way of life. I have had to make changes to the food I eat, the products I wear or put on my body, as well as what can touch the food I plan on eating. The Gindicate Test Kitchen was specially built to be a place I could make food, GF beers, and occasionally have friends over.

It is a challenge to educate and inform friends, co-workers, and wait-staff on how dangerous it is for me to have Gluten. Luckily for me I have mostly external symptoms (flaky patches on my elbows, eye lids, and scalp) and the occasional internal issue (google Celiac Disease if you need more information). This means that cross contamination is not as hard on me as others, but as the years go by without eating Gluten my tolerance goes down. This leads to more severe reactions and more painful "episodes."

This page and the blog posts that are tagged as "Gluten-Free" will be a place for others to learn about the options that Gluten Intolerant, or those with Celiac Disease, have in the "adult beverages" world. Luckily for us most distilled spirits are gluten free, since they go through the vapor phase and gluten does not come along for the ride. However, there are still challenges and lessons to be learned about GF beers, ciders, spirits, and mixed drinks.

I am not an expert. I am someone who is learning day by day. I can only share with you my experiences and what I have discovered through trial and error. Please feel free to comment or message the Gindicate so that I can answer any questions you might have.

Cheers!
